Get to Know Your OT

Updated: Jul 29, 2020

Now that I've been working in the community for almost a year (!!), I figured it's about time that I take a few minutes to introduce myself. You can read my bio under the About Me tab for details of my education, but here are a few "fun facts" that you might enjoy learning about me.

1. I'm a certified SCUBA diver

I took my open water course in 2006 and fell in love with the sport. I've since continued taking courses and am now certified in rescue diving and ice diving. I even went diving between the tectonic plates in Iceland (brrr!).

2. I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity

While doing my undergraduate degree, I spent two of my reading weeks doing the Collegiate Challenge with Habitat for Humanity. I went to Birmingham, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana post Hurricane Katrina.

3. I love the ocean

As an East Coaster born and bred, I have salt water in my veins. I miss the ocean everyday. There's just something about that sweet salty air!

4. I have zero business background

I never planned on starting up a business, but after our posting to Petawawa, it seemed like the logical choice. I was missing working with children and there was a gap in paediatric services in the area, so I took the leap!

5. I love spending time in the backcountry

About three years ago, I did my first multi-day backpacking trip and I loved it. I've now done multi-day trips in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Ontario. Most recently, I completed a 12-day, 200km trek in the Nepali Himalayas.

6. I have an office supply addiction

You know you've seen me get excited about my erasable pens and post it notes!

7. I have an extensive dance background

I started dancing when I was four years old and continued right up until we moved to Petawawa. I even got the chance to compete at the international level in "Les Jeux de la Francophonie". Dance and movement have really inspired my OT practice.

8. I love to travel

I've traveled to 15 countries and I have plans to visit many more! Thailand, I'm comin' at ya!

9. Both our animals were rescues/adopted

Moose, our cat, was found in the woods while I was working along the Bay of Fundy. Harley, our dog, was adopted from a family in Ottawa who could no longer provide him with what he needed. These guys definitely complete our family!

10. I was the executive director for TEDxMoncton

...And I was involved with the event for four years. I got to meet so many amazing people. It was an awesome experience! I think the skills I learned through organizing the event are what have really helped me with starting up adaptABLE OT.
